Yesterday was another crazy day in the Kavanugh fiasco. It became clearer that the FBI investigation into sexual assault allegations against Brett Kavanaugh was being severely limited by the White House and Republicans in Congress. Accusations flew yesterday from Democrats that the investigation was turning into a charade, with some claiming that it was nothing more than an alibi for the GOP to move ahead with confirmation.
“We did what the Democrats asked, we investigated and found nothing new of any significance, so we’re voting to confirm.”
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. The GOP will NEVER stop being the party of subterfuge and dishonesty. Their standard-bearer is a lying con-man and a grifter, and Republicans have reinvented themselves in his corrupt image. Expect an increasingly loud chorus of voices from Progressives insisting that the FBI process is a corrupt political manipulation by Trump, McConnell and Grassley, the scope of which is laughably inadequate.
Also don’t be surprised if more allegations and details emerge anyway. Twitter was full of quotes and comments by former acquaintances of Kavanaugh claiming that his testimony was BS, and that he was a nasty, sloppy drunk who played mean pranks on the people around him and started fights.
The national discourse over the weekend was also brutally harsh to Kavanaugh, whose twisted-in-anger face was splashed on every screen as his whining, entitled statements sunk in. Increasingly glaring were the lies he told about the meanings of the comments in his yearbook. Serious journalists and comedians alike ridiculed his bogus explanations of the myriad overt references to drunkenness and sex acts.
As the hours pass and pertinent witnesses and victims go without a call from the FBI, expect them to turn to the press to make their cases, especially attorney Michael Avenatti, whose client is the only victim yet to have prepared a sworn affidavit alleging sexual misconduct by Kavanaugh. Trump likely told the FBI to stay away from Avenatti out of abject fear, because Avenatti has consistently and relentlessly made a fool out of Trump, outwitting him at every turn.
Spineless John Faso remains silent on the latest Kavanaugh developments, instead posting pictures of appearances in the district. It’s important that we pressure our Senators to expose the sham FBI investigation, but it’s more important that we keep working to Fire Feckless Faso and elect Antonio Delgado. There were many opportunities to canvass and help get out the vote this past weekend, and there will be similar events and actions every weekend until the Midterms. If you haven’t already, please get off the sidelines and help in these vital last weeks. We need you now more than ever…
