Don-the-Con took to Twitter yesterday to rant against his many enemies, past and present. He sought to jail political adversaries (Huma Abedin), silence the media, and boasted at Kim Jong Un that his nuclear button was bigger. Pundits from across the political spectrum denounced the unhinged Twitter tantrum, many demanding that he be removed from office under the provisions of the 25th amendment (which will never happen).
But it’s wise to consider that his entire outburst may have been a distraction from something else. After all, Trump is adept at making outrageous statements that keep the limelight on him and off everything else. Perhaps he knows that more indictments are about to be announced by the Mueller team. Or perhaps he was trying to divert attention from a devastating NYT op-ed by founders of Fusion GPS who were partly responsible for bringing the Trump-Russia collusion to light. They clarified that the FBI investigation of the Trump team did not start with the infamous Steele dossier, which Trump constantly tries to delegitimize, but rather began before the dossier – a timeline fact that further bolsters the case that the Trump team colluded with Russia during the election.
